Chapter 3: The Break-up and the Bees By: Rosy

“Erin! I can’t believe you!” Sophie yelled, “Gimmee that letter right now!”

“O.K.”Erin said as she reluctantly handed the letter over to Sophie.
Sophie opened it up and read it: “’Dear Jenny, I’m sorry, but I can not go to your party. I have no wishes of becoming popular. You guys are so mean! Besides, my parents won’t let me see the movie. I can’t believe your parents are letting you go, wait, you probably are sneaking there, huh? I can’t believe you! I will never want to be your friend! Sincerely, Sophie Colemen’ Erin! How could you do this?! Ya know what? I’m going to that party, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me! Ugh! C’mon Megan! Let’s go “No Megan!” Erin yelled, “Come with me! You don’t wanna stay wit that popular-wanna be freak! Now lets go!”
Megan stuttered, “Errrr, umm., I, uh, gotta go to … the… umm… bath room. Yah. Errr, see you-guys after class! I hope you’re friends again by then!” She ran off. “Ya know,
Erin,” Sophie said angrily, “I’m really surprised with you! Usually you’re always so nice, but this … this…. this is just unlike you!” “I gotta go to class,”
Erin said, annoyed as she ran off. Sophie ran to the bathroom and cried her eyes out. She missed all but one minute of 6^th period, and even worse, it was Mrs. Deany’s class. The kids had all nicknamed her: Mrs. Meany. She lived up to her name! She could whip out detention slips faster than you could say cheese. So when Sophie walked into the room, Mrs. Deany said, “ Sophie Colemen! You better believe you’re gonna have a detention after school! Missing the entire class period?!” “I didn’t miss all of it,” Sophie muttered. “What was that?!” “There’s still one minute of class left!”Mrs Deany cleared her throat and said, “Miss Colemen, read what’s written all across the chalkboard.” “Rule #1: Mrs. Deany is ALWAYS right!! Rule #2: If Mrs. Deany is wrong (which could NEVER HAPPEN!!) Refer to rule #1.. please!” Sophie glanced to her right, where she saw
Erin watching; she felt her face hot with embarrassment. “Ya know what, Colemen, we’re gonna pop that detention up to a double detention. One full hour.” “But then I’ll barely have enough time to get ready for Jenny’s party!” Sophie whined. “Excuse me?!” Mrs Dean said, raising one eyebrow. “Sorry Ma’am.” “Good! Now GET TO CLASS!”
Erin ran off just as Sophie turned around. She caught up with Megan in the hall. “Looks like Sophie Really is going to the Bees’ party after all,”
Erin said with a sigh. “Bees?!” Megan said with a confused look. “The popular girls!” “Tell me more..” “Well it’s simple! There’s the Queen Bee- Jenny (!) all the worker bees, all her followers that will do almost anything to stay popular. And there’s also the Wanna bees – like Sophie, except I think that after this party, she’ll be promoted to a worker bee.” “Ah. I see! So, what are we then?” “Well,”
Erin said as she bit her lip, “I know! We’re the butterfiez! We’re beautiful on the inside! And we can “fly” to the rescue of the Wanna Bees that get left behind!” “All right!” Megan exclaimed as she hi-fived
Erin, but then her smile turned ito a frown, and she said, “But I’m still really worried about Sophie!” “I think I know something that would help,”
Erin said as she bit her lip, and gazed upwards. “Dish!” Megan exclaimed. “O.K. I just happen to have with me, a camera that’s built into an earring! How perfect is that?!” “I dunno..” Megan said with a worried look. “Oh c’mon! It’ll work perfect! Sophie has the top of her ears pierced, but she’s not wearing any earrings in those holes today! And besides, we’re doing this to help her! I mean, if we think the party seems to be getting out of hand, we can stop it!” “I guess…” Megan said reluctantly. The two girls walked up to Sophie, and
Erin said, “Hey Soph. Umm.. You left an earring at my house, but I forgot it, but I had this one in my locker, and I thought you might wanna borrow it so you could look your best for that party tonight.” “Ohh… Uh.. Thanks.” Sophie said “Here, let me put it in for you.” she slid the earing into Sophie’s ear, just after secretly pushing the “ON” button. “Well, um thanks.” Sophie said, “ but don’t forget to bring my earring back tomorrow.” “I won’t,”
Erin said as she smiled and turned around, “Ta ta!” She grabbed Megan’s arm and they walked off.

After Sophie finished serving her detention, she ran home as fast as she could, took a shower, and put on her prettiest/coolest outfit. She hopped on her skateboard, and headed for Jenny’s house. On the way there, she went over in her mind what Jenny had said the plan was. First, they would all hang out at Jenny’s house for an hour, then they would go eat pizza for supper. Next, they would go see the movie, and then, all go back to Jenny’s house for a sleepover. That’s how Jenny said it would go. Sophie found herself at Jenny’s house. She went to the door and rung the bell. As she waited, she went over the plan once more in her head.
