Chapter 23: A Light in the Dark

By: Rosy

The girls ran to the secretary, and then she walked them to the office and had them sit down before she would tell them what was wrong.

“Girls,” she said, “Mrs. Davis just called from the hospital.”

The girls’ eyes got wide.

“Megan is refusing her treatment, especially the acupuncture-which uses needles,” the secretary continued, “Mrs. Davis said that Megan will not do the treatment until you girls come. But the treatment is needed right now! Her case could get even worse if she doesn’t have treatment very very soon! The principal is waiting in his car outside. He is going to rush you girls to the hospital immediately. I will tell your teacher that you are out on very important business. Now go at once!”

The girls ran out to the principal’s car. The 5 minute trip to the hospital seemed like 5 hours. The whole ride they were hoping that they wouldn’t be too late.

“Let’s pray,” Jenny said, and the other girls agreed, “I’ll start. Dear Jesus, please help us get to Megan before she gets even sicker. Help her treatment to work so she can get better and come home.”

“Dear Lord,” Sophie started, “Thank-you for being You! Thank-you for being a miracle-worker! Please work your miracles through Megan and help her to get better. I know you can do this, and I ask that you do. “

“Dear Father, please heal Megan. Help her life to be able to get back to normal, and hlep her mom and her forming brother to be healthy. Amen.”

When the girls looked up, they noticed the principal looking at them through the mirror.

“We’re here,” he said, “but I didn’t want to disturb you girls.”

The girls hopped out of the car and ran as fast as they could to Megan’s room.

Megan’s face lit up and she exclaimed, “Finally you guys are here! I have to show you some-”

“Megan, dear,” Mrs. Davis said, “you really need to begin your treatment now! You can talk to your friends afterwards.”

“That’s okay,” a nurse who had just walked in said, “I think it will take her mind off of…” she turned away from Megan and whispered, “the needles.”

The nurse walked over to Megan and began perparing her for the acupuncture treatment.

“They’re probably gonna let me go home in a few days!” Megan said excitedly, “but we have to hire a nurse to stay at our house for a few months to help with my treatment,” she wrinkled her nose.

“That’s great,” Sophie said,”but what did you want to show us?”

“Oh yah!” Megan said, then she reached under her bed and pulled out a sparkly pink and black guitar, “Look what my mom bought me to use during therapy and stuff so I’m not bored!”

“That’s AWESOME!” the other girls exclaimed.

“Yah! And I’m already learning lots of new notes and chords! My mom got me a bunch of books and instructional dvds! This hospital room is awesome! There’s satelite T.V., a VCR and DVD player, CD player, and a laptop, and it even has wireless internet! And online, I found the guitar music for my favorite Hannah Montana song!”

“Sweeeet!” Sophie said.

“Ummm…what’s your favorite Hannah Montana song?” Jenny asked.

Who Said! Let me sing it for you- oh and I changed it a little! Megan-style! It’s majorly corny, but it’s fun!” She said with a giggle.

The nurse began pricking small needles into Megan’s legs, but she didn’t notice because she was too busy with her friends.

Megan began to play the familiar tune on her guitar and started singing. Megan wasn’t the best of singers, but like she said, it was fun!

“I’m more than just

Your average girl

I’ve got fibromylagia

and it is weird!

Oh yeah! *giggle*

Cuz some can take a lot

but this girl just has to faint!

I get muscle pains

and sleep problems!

I can be walking along,

then fall right on my face!

I get headaches a lot

from fatiiiii-iiigue!

Who said, who said

I’m a sick, little thing?

I say, I say

it’s just a minor thing!

Who said, Who said

that I’m gonna die?

I say, I say,

Soon I’ll be flying by!

YAH!”

“That’s so cute!” Erin exclaimed.

“Thanks!” Megan said and smiled proudly, “That’s all I’ve written so far, but I wanna finish it up just for fun!”

“Yah know…” Sophie said, biting her lip and gazing upwards, “With you playing guitar now, Megan, and I already play drums, and Erin’s a pretty good singer…”

“I’m a pretty good keyboard player,” Jenny said with a twinkle in her eye.

“That would be awesome…!” Erin exclaimed with a huge smile.

“What? What?! TELL ME!” Megan exclaimed.

“We could start a BAND!” Sophie said.

Megan’s face lit up, but then the principal walked in and said, “Girls, you need to get back to school now. It’s almost lunch time.”

“Bye, Megan!” Sophie said, “Hey! let’s all meet on MSN after school gets out so we can talk more! Bye!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the girls got back to school and went to the lunchroom, Joy Kinsman, one of Jenny’s bellow “bees” ran up.
“Jenny! You know how your other friend talked about Jesus yesterday? Well, we talked to all the “wanna-bees” about it, and Summer, Daniella, and Kathy followed Mesha and Folly’s example of thinking it was stupid lies…but Kourtney followed Jessica, Clarrissa, and my example of being really interested in it, and I think Daniella was too, but she had too much pressure from Folly.”
“That’s great!” Jenny said,”but it’ll have to wait till like tomorrow, lunch is almost over!”
The girls grabbed their lunches, inhaled  them, and then rushed off to Professor Dell’s science class. The class seemed to last for hours, and Ms. Eng’s gym class seemed to last even longer.
Finally when school got out, the girls rushed home and “signed in” on MSN so they could talk to Megan.
