Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Highs and Lows
A few minutes later, Sophie said, “ I’m gonna walk around for a little while- I’m tired of sitting.” So she got up and left.
“
Erin,” Jenny said, “I want to pray.”
“You want to pray again?”
Erin asked, “O…k.. we can. Do you want to start, or should I?”
“No, I don’t mean that kind of praying.
Erin, I want to pray to become a Christian!”
“Really?”
Erin said with wide eyes.
“Yeah! But I think I wasn’t to wait until Sophie gets back, and we can see Megan.”
“Allright.”
Then, Sophie walked back in with a sad look on her face.
“What’s the matter?”
Erin asked.
“I found out what Dr. J. was urgently rushing about.” Sophie answered as she sat down.
“Huh?”
“Well, a little boy was rushed to the emergency room today. After doing some tests on Megan and talking to us, the nurse told the doctor to come do tests on the little boy quickly. After getting the results, Dr. J. rushed to the boys parents to tell them the news. The little boy had cancer spread through his left arm. They’re going to have to amputate! And to make things worse, the nurses said that the little boy was screaming and screaming! He’s so scared!”
“That’s soo sad!” Jenny said.
“Yeah!”
Erin added, “but WE have some GOOD news!”
“What is it?” Sophie asked excitedly.
“Jenny decided that she wants to become a Christian!”
“That’s AWESOME!” Sophie said as she formed a three-way hug.
“But I’m going to wait until we get to see Megan,” Jenny said with a smile.
Dr. Johnekee walked in and said, “Megan can have visitors now,” then he rushed off.
Mrs. Davis smiled at the girls and said “I’ll let you girls go see Megan alone first.”
The girls speed-walked to Megan’s room, then overflowed Megan with questions.
“How are you?”
“Do you feel really bad?”
“Do you still have headaches?”
“Have you started any treatment yet?”
“Do you wanna hear some awesome news?!”
“Slow down, guys!” Megan exclaimed. “Let’s see here, I’m doing pretty good, I don’t feel too bad, and I don’t have a headache right now because I took pain medication, I don’t start my treatment until this afternoon, and OF COURSE I want to hear some good news! Tell me now! You KNOW I can’t stand to wait!”
“Jenny’s going to ask Jesus into her heart right now!” Sophie blurted out.
“AWESOME! Let’s get started!”
“So do I have to, like, kneel? Jenny asked.
“You don’t have to.”
Erin said.
“Okay. So, I know that I should probably fold my hands and close my eyes, but what do I say?”
“Just tell God that you know you’ve sinned, and yo need Him to come into your life and take over.”
“Okay. Here goes. Dear Father, thank-you so mush for sending your Son to earth to die for my sins. I know you love me SO much, and I love you too. Please come into my heart and take over my life because I need you. Amen.”
All of the girls looked up and smiled. Of all the girls, Megan had one of the biggest smiles. But suddenly her smile was wiped off her face and her eyes quickly shut. Her “heart-monitor” started beeping really fast! Then she began shaking violently!
Jenny dropped to her knees and screamed. Sophie started screaming and frantically pushed the nurse-buzzer.
Erin yelled as she ran out of the room to find a nurse or the doctor.
Would Megan be all right?!?
