Chapter 13

Chapter 13: Reaching In   By: Rosy

“Uh! She is not mean!” Sophie snapped.          “I’m sorry! That’s not what I meant! I just meant…-“          “It’s okay. You don’t have to explain. I’m sorry for freakin out like that.”          “So, you guys,” Megan asked, “whose gonna do the talking?”          “Well, Sophie can start out because she knows Jenny better and she is the least shy, and then you and I can add comments.”
Erin suggested.
“Sounds like a plan! Let’s go!”      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~          The girls walked back over to the table and sat down as calmly as they could. They were very nervous. They didn’t want to blow this amazing opportunity.          “Welcome back, guys. So what were you doing again? Some kind of weird meditation thing, or what?” Jenny said with a puzzled look.          “No. We were praying to God. The true God. He sent His own son down to earth to die!” Sophie answered.          “Why would He send His own son to die? That seems really mean!”          “Everyone has sinned, and the punishment for sin is eternal death in hell.”                 After hearing that, Jenny’s eyes got round and she said, “But, but…I…I don’t…I-“          “That’s why God had to send His perfect Son, Jesus. He took the punishment for all the sins in the world! Even all of yours and mine, even the ones we haven’t committed yet! And it wasn’t an easy, painless death either. He had to die a horrible death, nailed to a cross. And to make it worse, there were people mocking Him as he was up there suffering!”          Jenny’s eyes got even wider, and tears began flowing down her cheeks. Some of her fellow “bees” looked like they would burst into tears any moment too.          “He did that? For me?” Jenny asked between sobs.           “Yes, Jenny,”
Erin answered gently, “He loves you, so much! More than you can even imagine!”
“But now, what will happen when we die? We won’t go to hell, but what will happen?”          “Jesus promised that if we just ask Him into our hearts, after we die, we will go to be with Him forever in heaven-paradise,” Sophie said.          “Like
Hawaii?”
“Better!”          “Better??”          “Waaaaaaaaaaaay better! Sophie said with a smile, “So, do you want to take that step and ask Jesus to come into your life?”          With a peaceful smile, Jenny said, “I think the girls and I better think about it for a couple minutes, just so we can take it all in.”          “Ok!” Sophie said. Sophie, Erin, and Megan began to eat their lunches that they had left untouched the whole time. After a few moments, Jenny looked up.
Erin was nervously fidgeting with her hands, and Megan was biting her lip so hard that it looked like it would burst. Sophie’s heart was pounding in her chest; she could not tell what Jenny’s decision was, even though she was looking deeply into her face.
          “I have decided…”Jenny started…
